Deformities
Bunions
A bunion is a bony prominence at the base of the big toe that develops gradually and often worsens over time. We offer conservative management and surgical correction when appropriate. Both Dr. LaBella and Dr. Schwanke perform bunion surgery.
Hammertoes
Hammertoes occur when toes become bent or curled due to muscle imbalance, often from improper footwear or structural issues. Early treatment can prevent progression, while advanced cases may require surgical straightening.
Tailor's Bunion (Bunionette)
A smaller bony prominence on the outside of the foot at the base of the little toe. Treatment mirrors that of a standard bunion, from shoe modifications and padding to surgical correction for persistent cases.
Flatfoot Deformity (Adult-Acquired)
Progressive flattening of the arch in adults is often linked to posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. Catching it early allows for bracing and orthotics. Advanced cases may require reconstruction.
Pediatric Foot & Gait Issues
Children often present with flat feet, in-toeing, out-toeing, or heel pain during growth spurts. We assess whether conditions are developmental or require intervention and explain everything to parents clearly.
Haglund's Deformity
A bony enlargement at the back of the heel that causes pain where the Achilles tendon attaches. Often called "pump bump," this condition responds well to conservative care, and surgery is reserved for persistent cases.
